Have you got a head full of stories and want them to be told but are unsure where to begin? Have you considered Book Therapy?
Book Therapy is a haven where you can rave about the ideas floating about your noggin while hanging out with me. I will teach you the skills I developed by publishing my first novel when I was sixteen years old and all I’ve learned since then.
Together, we can work to get your stories out of your head and into the world, from the first scribbly scrawl in your notebook to the sublime printed manuscript. Book Therapy will give you the freedom and confidence to weave your woeful or wonderful tales and make them real and readable.
Come and join my guild of authors, where we will hone your writing craft. In these online sessions, you will learn to develop your characters from a name on a page to fantastic heroes or compelling villains you love to hate. We’ll scale the mountains of world-building and traverse the treacherous seas of writer’s block. Bring me your ideas, wherever they reside, in a packed-out journal, on the corner of a restaurant napkin or in the dusty recesses of your mind. Come along and cosy up with blankets and tea and tell me some stories.
Hi, I’m MJ Powell, and I’ll be your host for your Book Therapy sessions. If you’re here in search of more details and you’re feeling overwhelmed trying to plot your novel or short story idea, then I’m the right person to turn to. I’ll gladly listen to your ideas, no matter how chaotic or whacky they may be. Whether you have just one or two sentences of writing or a fully formed concept, we’ll work together over the course of an hour to flesh it out and polish it off, all while enjoying a cup of tea.
How does it work?
In Book Therapy, you have the freedom to explore your writing potential in any genre, be it fiction or non-fiction. There will be homework, but don’t worry, it’s entirely up to you whether you want to complete it. After all, this is a safe place for your creative mind to run wild, and I promise you’ll leave feeling refreshed and ready to write your next great piece.
During these sessions, you’ll explain your ideas to me, and we’ll discuss them in as much detail as you’d like. It’s helpful if you bring something to write with, so you can refer back to our discussions later on. I’ll also take notes to ensure I can provide the best help possible and ask the right questions to guide you through the different elements of your story. Rest assured, all of your work will remain confidential, just like in regular therapy. Nothing you share will be used or repeated by me or anyone outside of our sessions.
Importantly, I ask that you bring your passion to these sessions. At the end of the day, it’s all about you and your ideas. My role is to provide you with thought-provoking questions, share knowledge from my previous storytelling experiences, and offer writing tips for you to take away with you. As I’m a qualified editor, I’m more than happy to review an outline you’ve already written, make suggestions, and help you expand your ideas.
How much is it?
Sessions will be held on Zoom. The first session costs £25.00, which is just a little more than you’d spend on a fresh cup of coffee, a sandwich, and a cake at your local cafe. If you find one session isn’t enough, you can purchase a block of 4 sessions for only £85.00. That’s four hours dedicated to bringing that idea that’s been bouncing around in your head for weeks, months, or even years out into the open so get cracking and book a session now!
